Professors, researchers and students who belog to Marine Biogeochemistry group has presented their research process in posters at the meeting of the Tohoku Ecosystem-Associated Marine Sciences Project (TEAMS) which has been conducted between 3 June to 4 June, 2016.
Title:Seasonal patterns of picoplankton in relation to water masses in Sanriku coastal sea
Yang Yanhui, Fukuda Hideki, Nagata Toshi (AORI)
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the distribution and seasonal patterns of picoplankton in relation to the dynamics of water masses in this region.
Method: OT line and 2 stations set in- and outside of Otsuchi Bay were investigated during summer and winter cruises conducted between 2012-2015. Picophytoplankton, bacteria and viruses were analyzed by the flow cytometry.
Results: Chl was generally high in nutrient-rich Oyashio waters. Distribution patternsof Syn and Euk abundance were distinct from those of Chl and were generally high in the Otsuchi Bay relative to the offshore regions. Prochlococcus was detected only during summer. The abundance of bacteria and viruses displayed large seasonal variability.
